New Art Players inaugurated its Diamond Jubilee Year on 23 November 2014, opening a year-long celebration of six decades in the socio-cultural life of Assam and the Northeast.
The inaugural function featured lectures by renowned scholar Birendranath Dutta and dramatist Kulada Bhattacharya. It was followed by a chorus specially composed for the occasion by Anupam Choudhury, and the staging of Arup Chakraborty’s play Abhijatri, directed by Chinmoy Chakraborty.
The Diamond Jubilee calendar announced for the year includes a panel discussion in memory of founder member Pradip Bordoloi, a felicitation of women entrepreneurs, the Children’s Drama Festival, the Mohendra Kumar Barua Biennial Lecture, a five-day drama festival, a festival of folk dances of the Northeast in collaboration with the North East Zone Cultural Centre, a programme on Borgeet and Assamese folk song, and a reunion of members with a dance-drama production to close the year.
