Under the auspices of New Art Players, the Nrityakalpa Dance Academy presented Muktimangal — a festival of performing arts — at Rabindra Bhavan, Guwahati, on 6 November 2013.

The evening featured dance recitals by some of the country’s finest classical artists: Kathak exponent Jayant Kastuar, former Secretary of the Sangeet Natak Akademi; Bharatanatyam exponent Kalaimamani Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala; Narendra Kumar; and Nrityakalpa’s Director, Dr Meernanda Barthakur, recipient of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar.

With Muktimangal, New Art Players added a new annual event to Guwahati’s cultural calendar, extending its long tradition of bringing classical dance and music to the connoisseurs of Assam — a tradition that has over the years brought Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Rukmini Devi Arundale, Leela Samson, Madhavi Mudgal and Parveen Sultana, among many others, to the city’s stages.
